Introduction to MMMSLP

The Mansoura-Manchester problem based programme is different from the current subject based format used by Mansoura Medical School and all other medical schools in Egypt except Suez Canal University. The main differences are:

Students will learn through medical problems from year one. The problem will highlight certain inter-related topics that can include subjects from both pre-clinical sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Parasitology and Pharmacology) as well as Clinical sciences (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine). There is not such division of topics into single field.

The programme is dependent upon the students (student -centred) in a sense that students will learn from different sources like internet, periodicals, library, from one another and lastly from tutors and teachers. Electronic (e) - Learning is an integral part of the programme and students should be computer competent and preferably have their own laptop.

The programme will run for 6 years, exactly as the ordinary programme. However, each year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester consists of 12-14 weeks of study plus 2 weeks for exams.

Semester1 runs from Late September to early January.
Semester 2 runs from early February to late June.
Summer exams for unsuccessful students will be held in Mid-July.
